Various YouTube channels feature video clips from the courtroom of David
Fleischer, Harris County, TX, former defense attorney who takes the
arraignment process seriously and applies the probable cause standard
with expertise. In applying the law, he's fair to both sides.
While he will construe facts favorably to the defendant, he won't put up
with defendants who act arrogant and entitled.
"I'm hungry and colored" was the excuse the defendant gave to the police
officer arresting her for the hit and run accident. After the victim
followed her to get her to stop and exchange insurance, she still
refused to cooperate and backed her vehicle toward the victim's vehicle
and collided, which was NOT accidental.
She's on two different felony probations. This judge has no tolerance
for violations of probation, parole, and bond conditions.
Her attorney, seeing the judge's reaction to the statement she made
to police, can't get her client to shut the fuck up. To the judge, she
says, "I'm colored. You don't understand me. If I was a different color,
you would." Despite thinking that the defendant is entirely immature,
the judge is still empathetic and tries to get her to understand that
she's responsible for her own behavior.
However, the judge should have stuck to his guns in setting bond at
$1,000 in lieu of raising it to $5,000 per her entitled attitude. At
least he ordered her not to drive. She has a CDL!
