I always used to hate the ties-- whether the standard or the bow variety--
because one's neck expands when playing a trumpet and the tie doesn't, which
tends to make for an uncomfortable hour and a half.
It's not the tie but the shirt collar. Measure your neck with a tailor's
tape, then buy the collared shirt two inches larger. Never wear tight
shirt collars.
