What did you watch?
Hey, thanks for asking!
I’ve been watching some old episodes of various incarnations of TO TELL THE
TRUTH if they have an interesting guest. Like Chuck Norris when he was a
baby. They had a special effects guy from the THE TOWERING INFERNO, which
made me realize I had never seen that movie except bits and pieces here and
there.
I'm not sure if I've ever seen it before either.
Well, at least now I’ve seen it. I recently watched an even worse Irwin
Allen Paul Newman movie WHEN TIME RAN OUT.
I don't think I've seen this before.
So I guess now I’ve seen them
all.
What did you watch?
This is a multiday catch up. Over the last few days I watched:
Black Adam (4K disc) 2022 movie set in the DCEU starring Dwayne Johnson as "Teth-Adam" who in ancient times is granted the powers of "Shazam" by the Wizard Shazam (Djimon Hounsou)allowing him to become "Black Adam" Turns out Black Adam isn't the nicest of guys and is imprisoned by the Wizard. Black Adam is awoken in present day by his oppressed people. He then starts to kill all the bad guys. This prompts Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to send the Justice Society Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher *Noah Centineo), to deal with Black Adam. I like that when the Justice Society shows up the locals all immediately side with Black Adam. The locals point out that while they were being oppressed the Justice Society stood back and did nothing, but the second they get their own hero suddenly the Justice Society takes notice and decides to intervene. It's an OK turn your brain off movie. I particularly like Hawkman and Doctor Fate. But where was the modern day Shazam?
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Zachary Levi as Shazam and Asher Angel as the barely in the movie Billy Batson. Some ancient gods (Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu) declare war on humanity and it's up to the Shazam family to save the day. It's OK.
The Flash (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Ezra Miller as "The Flash." Flash time travels to change history to prevent his father from being convicted for the murder of his mother, but the change causes a totally new timeline where Batman is still played by Mr. Mom. Now Flash must stop the popular Flash villain, General Zod. Wait isn't Zod a Superman villain? Whatever. Anyway Flash must not team up with Batman and Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to stop Zod from destroying the Earth. I actually like this movie, but it definitely has some major issues.
Blue Beetle (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Xolo Maridueña as a young man who gets hold of an alien Scarab that attaches itself to him turning him into The Guyver, I mean Blue Beetle. Victoria Kord (Susan Sarandon) wants the Scarab for herself and if she has to kill Xolo to get it, she really doesn't have a problem with that. This is a fun movie. And the Beetle's grandmother stole the movie.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qm9BGd7n7I4Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (4K disc) 2023 movie set in the DCEU starring Jason Momoa as Lobo, I mean Aquaman. Aquaman drives around on his motorcycle and does the haka dance. Are we sure he's not playing Lobo? Anyway, Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) returns to try and kill Aquaman which forces Lobo, I mean Aquaman to team up with his half brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) to save the day. The movie has issues, but it's watchable. It's just annoying going in and being aware of all the behind the scenes issues. For example, the movie originally had Batman, all the scenes were filmed, then they decided to edit him out of the movie. And as far as I can tell, they replaced Batman with a CGI octopus. And I just noticed WB released 4 DCEU movies in the same year, then had the nerve to complain about low box office returns.
The Batman (4K disc) 2022 movie not set in the DCEU starring Robert Pattinson as The Batman. The Batman investigates a serial killer (Paul Dano) who leaves riddles at the crime scene and runs into a crime boss that sort of resembles a Penguin (Colin Farrell). Along the way he gets help from a Cat Burglar (Zoë Kravitz).
Murderbot (AppleTV+) "Complementary Species" - Murderbot tries to keep his humans safe, but his humans don't trust him and are constantly worried Murderbot is going to murder them. Those humans clearly have trust issues. I mean would a killer cyborg that calls himself Murderbot hurt anyone?
28 Years later (theatrical) Alex Garland once again writes with Danny Boyle returning to direct this sequel to 28 Days later which takes place, 28 years after the first movie. England has been quarantined by the rest of the world. Everywhere else is virus free, but England is a wasteland full of rage zombies, which for whatever reason don't attack each other, and are now breeding. There are survivors living in isolated villages. The movie follows a young boy (Alfie Williams) who along with his father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) leave their village to find supplies. And along the way, you're not going to believe this, but they encounter infected people who try to kill them. Who could have saw that coming? But that's just the first half of the movie. The second half involves the young boy leaving the village again for reasons I won't spoil. Overall it's an OK movie. It's far closer to the first movie, than the second one. But that's probably intentional given the original writer and director came back. This is also part one of two. A sequel is already filmed and will be released next year. This movie doesn't so much end on a cliffhanger, as it just sort of stops at the point where part 2 will continue.
