I have to admit to be surprised that the war between Israel and Iran is already over, at least according to Trump, and the ceasefire is holding so far. I really didn't think we'd get that far this fast.
But I'm really not clear what happens in Iran from here on out. Trump and Netanyahu seem to be de-emphasizing regime change now and the Iranians don't seem to have risen up to overthrow the theocracy yet so I feel like they have only delayed the inevitable.
What did Trump promise the Iranians in exchange for signing on to the ceasefire? I have a bad feeling it was the abandonment of any idea of regime change and a cessation of sanctions. If I'm right about that, the Islamists will redouble their efforts to build nukes and we'll be seeing a fresh buildup of their proxies. When the Iranians and their proxies feel themselves strong enough, they'll be back to killing people.
