A British group called Palestine Action has been one of the key organizers of the frequent pro-Palestine (= pro-Hamas) protests in the UK but things changed suddenly for them late this week when the British Parliament "proscribed" them. In other words, they were designated a terrorist group. Much to the surprise of pretty much everyone, the British police actually started arresting them, or at least the ones who were brazen enough to declare themselves members via T-shirts or signs.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXkDEcwSA1IThe British police have largely confined themselves to arresting people for saying hurtful things online - and the odd "non-crime hate incident" - for a couple of years now with real crimes like burglary, car theft, and the like almost completely ignored so I'm REALLY surprised by this turn of events. Keir Starmer must be REALLY worried about the polls, even though the next election is years away.
Of course it remains to be seen what charges are laid and what punishments are levied in the event of conviction. Given Labour's love of left-wing causes, I'm going to be really surprised if any of these protesters get anything beyond the mildest slap on the wrist; jail time is almost unthinkable to me. I think the police will do just the bare minimum to make it look like they're trying to enforce the law and not one bit more. But I could be wrong.
