The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do
nothing.
-- attributed to Edmund Burke but there's no evidence that he said it
But we should be less concerned about the triumph of evil than those in
the grip of functional stupidity. Evil breaks down; it sparks
opposition. But stupidity? It cannot be reasoned with. It doesn't
respond to force.
Cynical video about the philosophy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who saw his
world deteriorate around him as the Nazis took power and men of
intellect went along with it. Bonhoeffer was imprisoned at the end of
WWII then executed shortly before the regime fell.
Bonhoeffer wasn't criticizing individuals but systems that encourage one
to stop thinking.
A great deal of this is AI generated but, as always, the words sound
right. Is this accurate or am I in the grip of functional stupidity?
