Verily, in article <104lqhf$17ha$1@gallifrey.nk.ca>, did
doctor@doctor.nl2k.ab.ca deliver unto us this message:

To Commander Riker's surprise,
he is offered a promotion: command of the Starship Ares,
tasked with exploring a newly discovered intelligent
life form in the Vega-Omicron sector.

How often was Riker offered a command? I'm pretty sure it was at least
three times.

One wonders how he reached the rank of commander with so little desire
to advance.
