Well Gunn's main point was that the movie was "mostly a story that
says basic human kindness is a value and is something that we have
lost." Which isn't far off the idea of what Superman has always been
about. With his ability to keep getting attacked and even having
friends attacked and yet still maintain a basic kindness and caring
about mankind. Something that many of us would struggle with in his
situation.
