I agree that such attitudes are so obscenely backward and inhuman
that its hard to see why they haven't expired from spontaneous
neglect. Otoh, since (e.g.) *we* condemn women who parade their
boobs in a supermarket, what qualitatively entitles us to cast
principled stones?
supermarket so I really don't know what you're talking about. I
haven't even heard women cluck to each other in semi-whispers about
another woman who is showing more than the average amount of boob.
For what it's worth, a woman in Guelph, Ontario effectively made it
legal for women to go topless whenever they wanted (in Ontario) about
30 years ago.

In any case, what do your remarks even have to do with Muslim men
harassing women? You acknowledge that these are barbaric behaviours
but you still seem to be hunting for some excuse for this behaviour.
It seems like you're trying to root that excuse in some perceived
hypocrisy among Westerners.
I'm trying to point out that *our* mores aren't without "barbarisms".
going to be dark out tonight.
The trick is to bear that in mind when punching down in culture wars.
This is typically where the Islam apologist will shout, "Christians are just
as bad. What about the Inquisition?!?"
The proper response to which is, if you find yourself always having to reach
back centuries, if not millennia, to find analogous Christian examples to
counter modern Muslim barbarity, you should do some serious self-examination.
