Re: What Did You Watch? 2025-07-16 (Wednesday)

I'm still marathoning My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. I won't recap
each one, but I want to give them credit for one twist which took me
completely by surprise. In S8 they introduce numerous new characters via
the School of Friendship. One is Cozy Glow, a big-eyed pegasus filly who
wants to be in the School with her friends but has already learned basic
friendship. She ends up as a sort of page, working for the School and
helping her friends.

In the two-part finale of S8, Cozy Glow reveals that she's an evil
little psychopath trying to harness the power of friendship (which in
this universe is considerable) to take over Equestria and the world. I
give the showrunners a lot of credit for balls on this, because they
didn't wimp out. Cozy wasn't under mind control. She wasn't a
shapechanger. She didn't see the error of her ways and reform. She is
legit an adorable little psychopath, and I never saw it coming.

In retrospect, there was a lone clue: Her cutie mark is a chess piece,
but she's never seen playing chess.
