On a personal note, I definitely appreciated Black Sabbath back in the day. I've got the first four albums and still listen to them on occasion (via YouTube) and appreciate them.
I've never pretended to understand Ozzy as a person or what drove him. His slurred speech always made him seem massively impaired every time I saw an interview with him - or a clip from his reality show - but he couldn't have lived this long if he was *that* drunk/stoned could he so maybe he wasn't actually as wasted as he seemed. But you can't deny that he made a memorable front man, both of Black Sabbath and of his solo band.
