Lennon once said something to the effect that, when he and Paul added
different sections to songs, Paul's parts reflected his sunnier
disposition, while his [John's] were more pessimistic.
The songs on which they did this include "A Hard Day's Night," "A Day in
the Life," and "I've Got a Feeling."
Where did this collaboration work best?  IMO, it's "We Can Work It Out."
It's got great melodies, it does not drag anywhere, there are
interesting musical touches (such as the switch to 6/8 at the end of
each chorus), and the guys' different sections really do contrast.
