Yes, I did.
When I first started meeting hardcore record collectors (in the '80s),
it wasn't long before I realized that quite a few of them were likely
tone deaf. This one guy played a doo-wop record for me that cost him
several hundred dollars (that was 40 years ago). I pointed out that the
lead's voice cracked and that the background singers couldn't stay
on-key. His reply: "I don't hear that."
The value of each record has little to do with how good the music on the
record is. I've been emailing back and forth with Billy Vera the past
few days. He recently bought a copy of the record at the link below from
Shively for $5K.
Still ridiculously expensive, but at least that one's a good record--at
least to my ears.
