 The Giant Space Lizard eats it. A new one is made every dawn. There's
a factory in Finland. They have a reserve of a few hundred in case
their works get broken for a while.

How does it go down if there's no down over a curved horizon?

 It doesn't. That's an artifact of the telescope. Sort of like the
mirages first seen in Galileo's scopes when he pointed them at Jupiter
and claimed to discover "moons".

 The effect is caused by TV aerials and ice-cream aurae interacting
with the geoquantumnal caustic fields. It's sort of analogous to
refraction but totally different in its physical origins.

 A sufficiently tall stack of mixed pine-apples and banannanas can
void the effect and create a new false rising of the small Sun.

 I thought that *everyone* knew this?
