It is a one way audio link,
so if you want to send data via the thing, you need to for example use modem chips like TCM3105 (up to 1200 Bd).
I have used that chip to send data via the 27 MHz (think it is still a license free band here) in the Z80 days.
What sort of range do they have?
10 meters maybe.
