I just read today another interesting paper from Iranians. The volume of papers, by the way, that get published in Iran has skyrocketed. Only 10 years back, I could catch up with the interesting ones. Not a chance today! I'm always struggling, and more nice ones appear almost by the hour.
I know a lot about Iran. But my weak point is the newest generation Iranians, and I'm worried about them. I don't know how Nazis are working on them. My contacts are with my folks, and these "folks" are all same generation as I am and do not show tiniest interest in involving me with the lives of their children and grandchildren. That's the last thing in mind for them when they get in touch with me.
As I mentioned this a couple of times here before, these papers, understood from the list of references they give, all rely on other papers that are also written by Iranians and in Persian language. Every once in a while, a German source is given, or a French. And very rarely an English source. The rest of the references are all Iranian papers mostly published within the past 5 years or so.
My interests are limited of course. I only read the ones that tell me about today's generation or today's status of some social aspect or behavior of the bulk of Iranians in general. Cause stuff are changing fast! And as I said, I cannot catch up with everything that I find necessary to read.
Anyway, to cut it short, today's paper was by a team of four social scientists, two men and two women, about the subject of marriage among the present generation of Iranians. It was a long paper, full of description of methods they used to accumulate data and the analyses. Lot's of nitty gritty. But one of their interesting conclusions gave me what I wanted to know, and I think was the heart of the paper's findings. That made my day :)
They discovered and showed that in the present generation of Iranians, the most prevalent "non-economy-related" reasons in postponing or sometimes even avoiding marriage, are these: (in order of prevalence)
1- high expectations from their partners: 32%
2- seeking a too material married life: 16%
3- priorities changing to individualistic and freedom of choice: 13%
4- avoiding responsibilities: 13%
5- opting for variety in partners: 8%
6- apprehension of infidelity in partner: 7.5%
7- mandatory 2-year military service: 4.5%
8- choosy parents: 3.5%
9- seeking more advanced education: 2.5%
The above result is a gold mine :-) And I'm almost sure the statistics of the above is distinctly different in the USA and Europe. And I could write a book about why that's the case. This, in many ways, even points to different species of human present today.
Discussing this result is another matter, as this post was just about what made my day today. Still note that the most important part is the first item in the list, of course. And those of you who read my ACOB blog would find it the very data that supports claims I made in that blog. I came to my conclusions via other routes, purely theoretical you may say, and here is the data for it! :)
