I don’t think newer CPUs have been optimized for encryption. Instead, we
see newer encryption algorithms (or ways of using them) that work better
on current CPUs. For example, when I was first learning about computer
encryption, I was told that CBC (“Cipher-Block Chaining”) mode was teh
hawtness, but nowadays it’s all about GFC (“Galois-Field Counter”) mode.
