How does Usenet fit into the vision presented by Licklider and Taylor in
"The Computer as a Communication Device"?
Reflect on:
- Which aspects of their vision are realized through Usenet?
- What aspects have evolved differently from what they imagined?
Feel free to respond to comments made by your classmates as well.
Usenet fits into Licklider and Taylo's vision by allowing people
from anywhere in the world. It supports their idea that computers can help
people connect and collaborate without being face-to-face. However, Usenet
doesn't fully match their vision because they imagined computers doing more
than just allowing discussions. They thought computers would help people actively
solve problems, work together in real time, and build new ideas. Usenet, while
useful for sharing information, is more a basic discussion platform and lacks those
advanced interactive features.
