Windows Vista will never be extended either.
Certainly the version on one of my ancient laptops never will be. Indeed, I deprive it of an Internet connection for precisely that reason. Vista is what it is, and has no business changing. If I want to change the OS I'll buy a bloody CD-ROM.
Operating systems have least excuse of all for turning rock into sand. It's harder to build stable software if it has to sit on top of amorphous gloop.
