That's an interesting test as well, but I don't want to run it on my
HW right now. May be, at night.

On bigger gear it was not as bad as I expected.
Input file: 155,488,672 bytes
C source (decimal, one number per line): 641,236,315 bytes
gcc compilation time: 3m54.635s
peak memory consumption by compiler: ~27 GB

0.66 MB/s, only 25-30% slower rate than 5 MB input on the same HW
That is, slow, but not sky is falling sort of slow.
