Still, I am pretty sure that I didn't say anything like that, because I don't remember being taught about a definition of the term "whole numbers" at school at all. (I /do/ remember learning it from other sources while I was at school - I was the weird kid who read maths books in my spare time.)

It would have been around 1984 when I first learned about terms such as "the set of integers" in a rigorous manner.Mine certainly didn't.But you are significantly older than David. Not sure about James.
