Why do people use just about the dumbest possible search engine instead?

Because they don't know better.
Yes. You're the only one who knows the answer to that question, which is
what I'm actually trying to "fix" in my kind-hearted way on this newsgroup.
<https://skyica.com/appfinder/features/>
Do you get paid for this? This app is not for free.
That's an odd thought process... very strange... almost incomprehensible...
It's kind of like saying the Google Play Store OSMAnd app costs money so
you won't install the free F-Droid OSMAnd app - which is the same app.
The thought process of people who say such things boggles my mind...
And there you go misleading again.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmandYep, free. However, this one is payware:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.osmand.plusHowever, you said OSMand, not OSMand+. Yet Fdroid you claim offers the
free (non-plus) version is instead proliferating the plus paid version
that you tout as free. In a search on "osmand" at Fdroid, the only
match in their search was:
https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.osmand.plus/That looks to be the OSMand+ version, but they substituted ~ for + in
the product name yet "plus" is in the URL path.
Read carefully that Fdroid app page which notes:
Anti-Features (i.e., features you do NOT want for freeware)
- This app contains non-free assets
- This app promotes or depends entirely on a non-free network service
Yes, Fdroid carries the app, but also notes it is NOT a free app. Nope,
I don't need to install it to check free versus paid. I trust Fdroid
more than you. You said OSMand (no plus sign). You also said it's at
Fdroid. That's OSMand+. Sorry, I cannot address why Fdroid doesn't
carry OSMand non-plus (free) since their About page claims "F-Droid is
an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software)
applications for the Android platform." Seems contradictory that Fdroid
carries OSMand+ instead of OSMand, but you claimed the one at Fdroid was
free. Free download does not mandate free software. Tis disappointing
Fdroid is pushing payware, and then caveats the app with anti-features.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OsmAnd"It is available in both free and paid versions; the latter unlocks the
download limit for offline maps and provides access to Wikipedia points
of interest (POIs) and their descriptions from within the app."
There is a download limit for offline maps in Google Maps? Or in the
Here [WeGo] app? Gee, I never got charged for all those offline maps I
stored on my SD card using those map apps. The comment about lack of
POIs (Points of Interest) is one of the reasons my trial of OSMand (free
non-plus) ceased. That along with them using county plats that did not
match reality since those show road proposed changes or additions that
have not yet occurred. Plus crowdsourcing a database doesn't guarantee
accuracy. Hmm, and I didn't have to pay for Google Maps or Here [WeGo],
either. OpenStreetMaps (OSM), and the OSMand that accesses the OSM map
database are valiant efforts indeed, but lost in my evaluation of it,
and of alternatives all of which were free, and all of which were
available at play.google.com.
