Thanks! Chrome certainly uses a LOT more of everything, which perhaps explains why it simply blinks out of existence every once in a while, sometimes taking my 'taskbar' (fvwm95 -- it was the most complete WM when I first used linux and is hand-configurable) with it. I need to look at this more closely...
Curiously enough, chrome will happily accept websites that firefox absolutely refuses to deal with due to security violations.
