You do know that pretty much every carrier maintains a way to send an
email to a particular phone number?(*) It's not just Verizon. (I
have Visible, but the email-to-phone thing is the same because
Visible uses its corporate parent Verizon's network.)

The e-mail to SMS and e-mail to MMS gateways are very useful. I didn't
think that there would be an e-mail to RCS gateway.

Is it really? In other parts of the world where mobile communication is
more advanced than in the US such a service is completely unknown
Then in this regard, the communication outside the US and Canada (and
the rest of Latin America, I suspect) is less advanced.
This crap is super-old-style and in no way advanced. MMS is turned off in a majority of countries in the world for years. This crap never gained traction outside the US. And this is 20 years back.
and I
cannot see how that could be useful.
Let's say you are using your computer and you want to send a message to
a cellphone.
You do not understand the topic at all.
