Yeah, Wine is not actual Winblows, and he knows it.  He plays dumb,

Is Wine standalone? I tried it a long time ago and I thought you had to
provide dlls from a Windows box. I was trying to use TEFview, a player for
TableEdit files. I don't think Wine could do MIDI at the time so it didn't
work.
Yeah, Wine stands alone.  No Windows necessary at all.
If you have Wine installed, look at:
/home/rbowman/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32
Look at the .dll file names.  The Linux folder holds nearly 900 .dll
files (and ntoskrnl.exe) named identically to those found in C:\Windows\System32.
So the Windows app running on Linux makes calls to the same file names and locations of the .dll files on Windows.  wine then translates WinAPI calls to POSIX calls.
They've been working on it for 30+ years and making blanket claims about its capabilities, but the fact that there are 5 levels of compatibility ranking means it's a big fail.
Last time I tried it, wine would add an entry to 'Open With' every time I clicked on an MS Office file.
