Granted, Clippy was part of the MS-Office App, not the OS, but MS has
had some fuzzy disembarkation lines for decades (eg, Internet Explorer).

Sure, but the scope here was just Clippy within an App, and Apps aren't really relevant to be part of Linux-vs-others advocacy...
...unless the crux of your complaint is  that Software Company X chose to support OSs A&B, but not OS C - - but that's their business decision that they're free to decide entirely on their own.
