The original saying was actually “Real Programmers can write FORTRAN in
any language”. This came from a famous item in “Datamation” magazine,
entitled “Real Programmers Don’t Eat Quiche”. It kind of went viral, only
we didn’t have the term then. It got photocopied a lot and stuck on office
doors.
