Yes.
I like a lot more control over what goes on as Fluxbox starts up.
So I create /usr/share/xsessions/xsession.desktop (if it doesn't already
exist):
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Xsession
Exec=/etc/X11/Xsession
Already in there on this laptop are fluxbox.desktop, ubuntu.desktop, and
xfce.desktop.
If you logout, does your login manager now
show options for xfce and fluxbox?
