True. But the discussion is about MP3 files.
Lossless compression is usually done through FLAC, which is yet
another FLOSS success.
I play my FLAC files thusly:
flac -d -c file.flac | aplay
What could be simpler?
A lot of music, for example the chuckleheads on YouTube, will
distribute music as VORBIS or OGG.
GNU/Linux can handle all these cases as well.
