In the United Snakes, it would require over an hour, by car at
60 mph, to just reach the urban limits, and then you would be
reaching the next metropolis. In a sense, the "countryside"
does not exist.
That's how it is in the Midwest. In the Northeast it's even
worse.
If you happen to be in Chicago, or Los Angeles, or New York City,
just forget it. You could never escape the urban clutter.
That's why I only "bike" on my stationary bike exercise machine.
I can reap all the benefits without venturing into the clogged
and crazy urban jungle.
I do keep my road bikes for short-term transportation, e.g. when
I need to take my car in for servicing.
