If you're scanning text documents, JPEG is a poor format. You should
use PNG or, the best, JBIG2.
The issue is that the PNGs are a lot larger than JPEGs, which makes them
sometimes impossible to email.

Thanks for the tips. However, the current conversion has garnered no complaints
from the recipients.

How strict is your email's attachment policy?
Beats me. Just the thought of a 20 Mb attachment bugs me, though.
