Well, if you can name a few Internet service providers which still
provide Usenet access, be my guest. Google, for its part, has finally
disconnected Usenet. It seems that the only people who know about Usenet
now are people who were around in the 90s and grew up with it.

The ISP I was using dropped Usenet sometime in the early 2000's. It takes
a lot of storage to run a NNTP node. Even when it was still up I got much
better performance from a server in Berlin than the one 8 miles away.
That was my experience with the last provider who offered Usenet (in the
early or mid 2000's). They contracted to another company for Usenet, I would
tell them that Usenet was NOT working and they would refer me to the
contracting company who NEVER responded. That's when I went with the German
outfit (which eventually became individual.net and became a paid service). I
tried to pay them but the billing outfit they were using didn't like
something about my debit card — so I ended up going to eternal-september
(another German outfit). I've been with them ever since.
