It's pure suicide.

No telemetry, lighter code, a feeling of complete control. However, most
Linux distributions use Firefox and Thunderbird by default and these are
known to collect data by default, so the telemetry argument is out the
window unless you get rid of those two.

Yeah, because Mac OS and Windows are so much better about "not" collecting
personal information.

I never said that they were. What I'm saying is that if you're using
Linux because you're concerned about telemetry, then you're being
hypocritical.
Not really. The telemetry on Windows and MacOS is a LOT more pervasive and
almost impossible to completely remove. And Windows (the control freaks who
program it) decide what you should do with your computer if you're using
their crap. My daughter and her husband have just run into Windows' "fun and
games" when their Microsoft Windows computer "helpfully" automatically
updated their computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Now, apparently, they
have several issues — one, apparently, with the network card driver.

I don't have that issue so I can't comment on it. However, I can't
recall a single Windows in the past which didn't suddenly lose
recognition of hardware which worked fine on the previous version. I
used to force Windows 7 to run the Vista driver for my scanner because
the new version didn't see a point of supporting a scanner from 2003.

As for "getting rid of Firefox and Thunderbird," you can do that. Or you
could just go to the Security settings and turn telemetry off.

Problem solved either way.

That's not a problem, but I imagine that most people aren't even aware
of the telemetry and won't have known to do that.
That could be true but, "supposedly," telemetry is just there for quality
control. But I tend to be skeptical also. I go through Firefox and
Thunderbird and get rid of things like automatically saving credit card
numbers, etc. I turn off allowing notifications and requests to use my
camera or audio, for whatever may "need" audio or the camera... like
"Virtual Reality." Virtual reality? Really? What is the hell is that all
about? Personally I look at it this way. I'll decide what and when I want
turned on, on a case by case basis when I need it. I've NEVER like
applications that try to think for me and make decisions for me. (It's one
of the main reasons why I hated Microsoft Office.)

Meanwhile, many of us don't have a choice but to support Microsoft
Office because everyone else doesn't mind the fact that the suite makes
decisions for them. Even if LibreOffice isn't the solution, OpenDocument
is. That should be the default, not Microsoft's format.
Agreed.
