I'm currently reading Shane Schaetzel's 'Are Catholics Christian?: A Guide
to Evangelical Questions about the Catholic Church'. It's an interesting
attempt but I doubt an evangelical would find it convincing. Even the ones
slightly beyond Chick's comic books aren't well versed in history.
According to some Protestant publications, the only reason the Catholics
started hospitals was so their nuns would have a place to give birth to
their babies, and orphanages were created to house all these priest's
babies. So, when you have that kind of mindset, you'll basically believe
anything. There can't possibly be anything noble in what the Catholic Church
did to care for the sick or wounded, or to help children without parents.
