Hate to break the news to you, but if you have Windows, part of
Windows is "Linux on the desktop".
Linux was stillborn on the desktop. But the devs keep plugging away, trying to resuscitate it. Keep hope alive!

Having a well-performing *nix environment available without having to dual-boot is a serious treat for OS geeks or anyone that needs Windows and Linux.
The ability to access multiple WSL distros with a couple clicks in the Terminal is one of the best features MS has added to Windows in a long time, in my estimation.
And Windows has had a *nix component available for like 25 years. What's new is how easy it is to install and use. And how fast it runs.
