It was important to do years ago, it's useless now. Except if you want
to have issues with some drivers, there is no need to do it. For a
normal desktop I mean. Some usages can require it, but it's very rare. I
wouldn't consider a distro who requires me to compile anything to be
serious. It's a useless waste of time and ressources. On an embedded
device, sure it's important, but not on a desktop.
Gentoo can build the kernel but I do not allow it to do so.
Once again, you prove you don't understand what you do. I already told
you so, but you didn't improve and you like to show it to all to see.
Rather I use my own script. I just point it at the source
tar ball and it does the rest:
You needed two and a half minutes, to do it, yes. So, when a new kernel
comes out, it comes with new options. Which have defaults. And the only
possibility to update your kernel in two minutes and thirty seconds is
to let the defaults. So, you personalize nothing, you optimize nothing
and it takes you more time than anyone using the already compiled
kernel to do so. Great job. I'm impressed. It's the most efficient way to
lose your time. The only other one who looked impressed is vallor who
try to compete with you in the uselessness usage of a computer.
