It wasn't a bed of roses but arguably the Jews did better under the
Moslems in al-Andalus than in Christian Europe during the same period.
Earlier the Visigoths had no use for Jews and after the Reconquista
maranos were treated with suspicion and in 1492 Columbus and practicing
Jews left. (separate events although some claim Columbus had a Jew
onboard) Spain was more or less Judenrein until 1968 after Vatican II
published 'Nostra aetate' saying Jews weren't really Christ-killers.
Likewise the Ottoman Empire had its up and downs but many Jews relocated
there from Christian controlled areas.
