So I do an update of Debian Sid, and it starts updating initrd images,

Purged 22 of them. FTS. FFS.
I feel your pain:
_[/boot]_(vallor@lm)🐧_
$ ls vmlinuz-* | wc -l
33
Almost all of those are manually-installed, so the Mint software updater
won't touch them. (You can set it to keep only two distro kernels.)
Meanwhile, I have some of this going on:
_[/home/vallor/OS]_(vallor@lm)🐧_
$ ls -d linux-*[0-9] | wc -l
70
70 built kernels, which I need to start removing (or run "make clean")
to make room on the NAS.
good thing you made them all in the first place ,
i gotta tell linux sure looks like fun
