That’s one reason I really miss the 3290. There was an optional full-width
dotted underscore line that could follow the cursor up and down. It made it
easy to read across a full 160-column line. I haven’t found an editor that
will do that.

 The 3290 was pretty cool but monocolor and amber wasn't my favorite.

   Almost the FIRST thing I did with the new IBM-PC/MSDOS
   PC was to write a full-screen editor kinda like 'nano'
   (in ASM) so I'd never have to use EDLIN or anything
   like it. DESPISE line editors - REMOVE them from all
   my Linux distros so they won't accidentally come up.
   Those IBM-PC "BIOS" routines - you needed the Tech Ref
   manual - were VERY VERY useful ... gave you access to
   everything you needed. Question - who WROTE those BIOS
   routines ... IBM people or M$ people ??? My GUESS is IBM
   since, originally, MSDOS was the "other OS" they provided
   for the machine.
