Never take the dry European accounts of Hinduism, Buddhism, and other
eastern religions as relevant to what happens on the ground. I've heard
Hinduism referred to as serial monotheism. People can switch to a new
favorite god or goddess and there is no requirement that everyone in a
family picks the same one.
