The USA despite its bravado lots *only 0.39%* of its population in WWII, and no territory was ever invaded and only Pearl Harbour was attacked.
Poland lost 10% of its population and was utterly destroyed and then subjugated for the next 50 years.
Germany lost 11% and was utterly destroyed and split in half.
Russia lost 15% of its population, and was pretty messed up
Britain lost 6%. And was smashed up badly. But not invaded.
Europe does not like war, and does not want war.
But at lest we understand why we have a military. To stop it happening again.
