Its similar but different under the NHS.
As blame culture seeps in, the doctor tends to refer you in case you have something nasty in the woodshed, so she/he cannot be blamed for lack of care.
And there are guidelines laid down and computer accessible for exactly what drug 'pathways' are to be recommended.
