I think I bought one memory card that came in exFAT. Can't be 100% sure, maybe it was the camera that formatted it that way.
Since I am almost 100% linux here mine tend to be re-formatted to EXT4. The ones that go in other kit - like my car - of course are FAT32. Its horrible, but that is the way of the world.
My other usage is Raspberry Pi SD cards which are two partitions in IIRC VFAT and EXT4
Frankly I hate the bloody things. I use them as little as possible, My camera has something in it but it talks via USB to the computer so I have no idea what format it actually is
