 Correct. I don't want to overtax the expert assistance that's clearly available from posters to this newsgroup and would rather ask for help relatively rarely, so I am not looking (at least, yet!) for a solution. My point, in this thread, was, instead, to comment on what I perceive to be an OS-design issue - a long-term interest.
