How the f*** did this discussion end up in a "The joy of FORTRAN"
thread on alt.folklore.computers, crossposted to comp.os.linux.misc?
False flag? Mission creep?
Time to channel my inner Andrea Bocelli / Sarah Brightman.

So we need more on topic stuff.
erm what's the format for the FORMAT command?
The need for it has been 'depricated'. However
it was one of the more confusing bits of the
language. You can still see vestiges of it in
some Python, even Pascal, fine-formatting
commands however.
MOSTLY, FORTRAN is very straight-up procedural
and cleanly structured. It's still as good as
most any language for writing apps - and still
esp strong when heavy math is required. The
old Dilberts built it right.
