Geany is my coding app of choice.
I used to use microEmacs, but I found regular emacs too knuckle-busting.
My partial list of must-haves:
- Fluxbox window manager (and Xfce4 for its tools/managers)
- xbindkeys
- tmux
- mpd, mpc (for automation), and ncmpcpp
- GCC and Clang, autotools, libtool, gdb and cgdb
- git
- conky
- urxvt
- texlive, latexmk for project documentation
- JACK, a2jmidid
- alsamixer
- nm-applet, NetworkManager
- ssh client and server
- cups
- cheese and guvcview
- LibreOffice (for letters, shopping lists, and tables)
There's a bunch of others I forget about, and have to install when I try to use
them.....
