From the ulimit manpage:

    -p   The pipe size in 512-byte blocks (this may not be set)

Note the "this may not be set" part at the end.


It is likely the case that if you wanted to increase the pipe size that
you would have to make a change in the kernel source and recompile a
custom kernel.
