Quite a few of my college friends were studying architecture and their
hero was Mies van der Rohe. I'm afraid those seeds have prevailed. He's
one German immigrant we could have lived without.

Architects _today_ still study Mies. Since I studied in chicago he was a local deity there. I do like architects trying to strike out on their own and not copying old stuff, but I also do not like when they tear down old stuff in order to build a glass box.
