With nuclear, there are no 'gaps that need filling'. Or if there are, intermittent renewables cannot be relied upon to fill them

Let me add here that all nuclear waste is not created the same. The vast majority of nuclear waste can be safely disposed of within a few 100 years. I think it's perhaps 1% or at most 5% that must be stored safely for thousands of years.
When this is discussed, you never hear about this distinction.
Also note that modern reactors currently in research stage, can be fueled by old nuclear waste which is very economical and very environmentally friendly.
Ergo... we have all science and technology to solve the entire energy problem of the human race. The only thing preventing us is politicians and emotional arguments.
