I pref to not put the leading bracket on the
same line as the 'if' or 'else' because then
it's easier to pick out the block by eye -
just look for the '{' on the left.
Some would probably get on your case for being profligate with vertical
space... but honestly, it doesn't much matter with the kind of screen
real estate we have these days. I do agree that your style has
readability benefits.
